The image "Saturn Devouring His Son" painted by Francisco Goya, depicts the titan Cronus eating his child, as heard from greek and roman mythology. This painting is one of fourteen black paintings which Goya put directly on the walls of his home. The paintings were transferred to canvas after his death. The painting can represent many things, the conflict which we see in the eyes of Saturn or Cronus represents possibly the titan going mad for power, or him having a feeling of remorse. The contrast which can be seen between youth and old age or innocence and madness is evident by the body of the child brightly lit while Cronus blends into the dark background.
In order to create my interpretation of Saturn Devouring his Child, I needed a model and a prop. I chose the bricks as the background to mirror the dark background in the original painting. Simon posed as Cronus posed in the painting. If I were to change one thing about the recreation, I would change the facial expression of Simon to be more conflicted than what I currently have.
